CEDAR RAPIDS — Auxiant, a third-party administrator of benefits plans, is revamping the first floor of its downtown office.
The project, which began last week, will focus on a complete renovation of its first-floor downtown office at 424 First Ave. NE, Chief Operating Officer Steve Chapman said.
The work will add approximately 10,000 square feet of additional space to the location, including more offices, conference rooms, health services, a break room and a lobby. Chapman said the business has grown enough to need the additional space on the first floor, which had been mostly unused since the company moved into the building in 2014.
Across its three offices in Cedar Rapids and Milwaukee and Madison, Wis., Chapman said Auxiant employs about 140 and administers to about 300 employer groups, most of which are located in the Midwest.
Auxiant’s offices in Madison and Milwaukee also recently underwent expansion projects, he added.
Right now, Chapman said the company is keeping an eye on a proposal by investors to construct a casino next door to its office. One of three proposals submitted to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is a venue that would be part of a rebuilt Five Seasons Parking Ramp — to which the Auxiant building is attached.
Chapman said Auxiant officials are concerned how construction will affect business, as the demolition of the parking garage would mean a loss of parking for staff.
“We’d certainly be talking with the city about any plans with that proposal,” Chapman said.
