Inmate dies after being found hanging in cell at Iowa Medical and Classification Center

CORALVILLE — An inmate at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center died Saturday after being found hanging from a bedsheet in his cell, officials said.

Ryan Stephen Bordenaro, 26, was found by prison staff at 3:03 p.m. Saturday. Responders attempted CPR and used an automated external defibrillator (AED), but their efforts to revive Bordenaro were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at 3:48 p.m.

Bordenaro was serving a sentence from Polk County for four counts of forgery and other misdemeanors. He began serving his sentence in January 2012, and had recently returned to prison following revocation of his work release.
